Forget the Bells in the Distance
by Martin Willitts, Jr.
She is walking in such a curious way,
from burying her husband; wiping her apron
of his name, as if in profound love,
only the recently loved can display.
Those that forget such pleasure
flick tongues of gossip like salamanders
& look like they ate a plum pit whole.
But that woman with the curious walk,
she had her head in another place entirely,
her hands were still remembering his skin.
