Course Description:
CRW 101 is a Gothic structure. To confront it
is to face a vague religion. This semester will be a suggestion

that there are some things rooted in this earth
that still reach up out of themselves. You will be tempted

to describe this as “soaring.” As a Gothic structure,
like a Gothic finch wing, this seminar/workshop

implies you are diaphanous or without measurable limit, all
despite an irrefutable skeleton comprised almost exclusively of concrete.

The student learning outcomes for this course
are as detailed in the Undergraduate Catalog.

Required Texts:

Attendance:
There will be rainy days when worms mottle the pavement.
Any walked distance will seem a sly pogrom, or a hazard, at least,

aimed to catch you unawares. Apprise yourself of my attendance policy,
which is intricate, slyer and more hazardous than your Croc-walk.

Participation:
I am a lonesome woman. This semester, I look forward to engaging
in the small reciprocities that set neurons atingle –

letting a stack of papers pass from my fingers to yours,
absorbing your questions, voicing concerns, being heard.

I have your mother’s attestation, genuine as motherhood,
that you are a worker of bee-like proportions.

At least feign surprise when your grade reflects this.
Protestations to be directed elsewhere.
