The Art of Bryan Baltz

This current portfolio of drawings is the culmination of many attempts to bridge the gap between words and images. My goal here is to take the conceptual structure that lies within philosophy, essays, and poems and translate that into a visual language. While my thought process tends to lean more towards that of a writer, I have always felt that images and symbols are the most basic form of communication. I feel a person will be much more likely to respond to an image on a deeper level than they might respond to words. However, I also believe that the visual arts can be much more than objects for the eyes to behold. Finally, I feel that even though most art carries with it some form of nourishment for the brain, in many cases it is lost within clutter or magic tricks. Essentially these drawings are meant to be "read" as one would read an essay, only with images in place of words and paragraphs.
